When to harvest VNR Jackfruit Plants Fruits?
- For vegetable purpose, fruits are ready for harvest at approximately 3 – 4 months from flowering (90 – 120 days). Marketable weight of fruit should be 2 – 3 Kg.
- As a table fruit, it is harvested at ripe stage reaching physiological maturity approximately 7-8 months from flowering (210 – 240 days).
- Harvesting must be conducted by careful handling to prevent fruit damage.
- Fruit should be harvested by cutting from the stalk using sharp knife/ secateur.
- Harvesting of fruits should be done in the morning or early evening.
When to harvest raw fruits for vegetable purpose?
- When fruits attain 2 – 3 kg wt.
- These fruits have soft pulp hence, get attractive price.
How to judge ripened fruits to be harvested?
We can judge the maturity (Ripened Fruits) by following-
- The leaf on peduncle becomes yellow.
- Hollow sound when tapped.
- Spines become flattened and wider.
- The rind yields to moderate pressure when pressed with a finger.
- Colour of fruit becomes green to pale green.
- Develops a strong aroma.

Note: Crates to be used should be work friendly so that when it gets loaded with fruits one should be able to lift it with ease.

After harvest one should not drop the fruit from height or throw in crates or baskets because it may cause bruising on the skin of the fruit which will restrict its shelf-life and open window for infections.
