What is grading?
To sort out the fruits according to shape, size, weight, maturity and quality is grading.
Why is grading important?
- To maintain the uniformity and quality of the produce. The graded fruit fetches good market price.
- It enhances the keeping quality of the fruits, as the infected/detoriated fruits allow invasion of the infection on good quality fruits hence grading plays an important role in sorting out those fruits.
- It also helps in grouping up the matured, ripe and over-ripe fruit.
How to do grading?
- After harvest, fruits are sorted based on their health, appearance, colour, maturity, weight, shape and size.
- In case of ripe fruits, yellowish green coloured skin are more preferred by consumers because they command the highest price.
