What is grading?
To sort out the fruits according to shape, size, weight, maturity and quality is grading.
Why is grading important?
- To maintain the uniformity and quality of the produce. The graded fruit fetches good market price.
- It enhances the keeping quality of the fruits, as the infected/detoriated fruits allow invasion of the infection on good quality fruits hence grading plays an important role in sorting out those fruits.
- It helps in grouping matured, ripe and over-ripe fruit.
How to do grading?
After harvest grading can be done according to health, appearance, maturity/quality, and weight/size of the fruit.
