Flowering in Apple Ber

< Back to Package of Practice

Flowering refers to the phase when the plant produces blossoms, which subsequently develop into fruits.

The flower is borne in the axil of the leaves on the main as well as lateral shoots and inflorescence is axillary cyme.

Axillary cyme refers to a type of inflorescence where flowers are borne in clusters (cymes) from the axils of leaves.

The number of flowers per inflorescence is found to be sixteen. Ber tree produces two type of flowers, male & hermaphrodite.

The flowering in ber takes place mostly on current season’s growth. New growth starts in the first fortnight of June while flowering starts in first week of September and continues till middle of November. However, majority of the fruit set occurs in the month of October (In Raipur condition).

The pollination is brought about by honey bees and houseflies, though, several other insects such as yellow wasps may contribute to it.

The period of peak fruit set varies in different regions, mainly depending on the occurrence of favorable temperature condition.
