Introduction-
Apple Ber belongs to the genus Zizyphus of the family Rhamnaceae. It is commercially cultivated for its nutritive and crunchy fruits.
This fruit resembles green apple in colour and tastes like ber, hence the name Apple ber. It is also called Apple plum or Jujube berry. Among various species, mauritiana is commercially cultivated for its nutritive and edible fruits. It is popularly known as poor man’s fruit of tropics.
Apple Ber is a hardy fruit crop and can be grown in any soil and harsh weather condition where other fruits tree fail to survive. It is found apple ber thrives in tropical and sub-tropical climates.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Soil – It can be grown in a wide variety of soil but loamy soil with well drained and proper aeration is best for cultivation.
- pH – The ideal pH for Jackfruit cultivation is 4.5 to 8.2 however it can tolerate maximum of 8.5 pH and minimum of 4.0 pH.
- Temperature – Optimum temperature for growth is about 30 – 400 C. It can tolerate up to 450 C.
- Elevation – It can be cultivated successfully up to an elevation of 1000 meter above mean sea level.
- Climate – It is hardy in nature and performs well in drought, semi-arid and subtropical conditions.
- Irrigation Water – The EC of water should be less than 1.0 dSm-1 for its successful cultivation.
