What is training?

Training is an art by which a desired stature is given to any plant. It is done during initial stage before fruiting (within 1 or 2 year of plantation).

Why is training required in VNR Jackfruit plant?

Training of VNR Jackfruit plant is done to:

  • Training leads to avail adequate sunshine so the plants get proper nutrition and aeration for proper growth and productivity. It also minimize the risk of insects and disease infestation.
  • Harvesting is difficult practice in tall plants; hence plant need to be in approach of a human being. Recommended training of plant helps to achieve the same.

How to do training of VNR Jackfruit plant?

  • Jackfruit is cauliflory in nature, meaning the flower and fruit bears on the stem and old branches of plant, so we have to train the plant in such way that maximum fruiting occurs at an approachable height.
  • The plant is allowed to grow naturally up to the height of 10-15 feet. Once, the tree attains this height, the height should be contained. A single stem is to be maintain at least 4-5 feet from the soil.

Bamboo support for directional growth

The method as shown in image can be used for desired directional growth of the branches in initial years of the plant. Once plant gains the strength after 3-4 years one can remove the bamboo support.
